The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) – Research and Innovation Foundation (VRIF) – Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCOE) India Subcentre was formally inaugurated in Bengaluru, marking an important step in advancing collaborative research, industry-academia partnerships, and skill development in cutting-edge technologies.
This subcentre is the result of a strategic collaboration between VTU, VRIF, and TCOE India to foster a vibrant innovation ecosystem across Karnataka and beyond. Hosted at VTU’s Bengaluru campus, the facility will serve as a hub-and-spoke model of excellence, connecting over 200 affiliated engineering colleges, thousands of faculty members, and a large student community.
The new VTU-VRIF-TCOE Subcentre is designed to support research and development in crucial domains such as 5G/6G, Quantum Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, AR/VR, IoT, Clean Energy, and Smart Mobility. By offering access to advanced labs, mentorship, industry networks, and government-backed schemes like the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF), the centre will help accelerate innovation and commercialization of ideas.
One of the key goals of this collaboration is to nurture startups and young entrepreneurs by offering them space, resources, and expert guidance. The subcentre will facilitate co-development of proof-of-concepts, enable IP generation, and support technology transfer efforts. Through internships, joint research projects, and skill-building programs, the centre also aims to strengthen academia-industry linkages.
The inauguration ceremony brought together academic leaders, government officials, industry representatives, and startup founders. Dignitaries emphasized the importance of collaborative research, local manufacturing, and building sovereign capabilities in telecom and allied sectors. The event also featured onboarding of partner startups, showcasing their innovative solutions that address real-world challenges.
Aligned with initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat, Digital India, and Make in India, the VTU-VRIF-TCOE Subcentre aims to bridge gaps between academic research and industry needs. By fostering innovation at the grassroots level and building strong academic partnerships, the centre aspires to make Karnataka—and India at large—a global leader in next-generation technologies.
This inauguration marks not just the opening of a new facility but the beginning of a shared mission to empower students, researchers, and entrepreneurs to shape the future of technology. The VTU-VRIF-TCOE Subcentre stands as a testament to what can be achieved when academia, industry, and government work together to solve society’s biggest challenges through innovation.
